KY NSF EPSCoR Wants to Fund Your Outreach!

Kentucky NSF EPSCoR provides funding support for scientists, educators, and organizations across the commonwealth. Discover which funding programs is right for you.

Kentucky NSF EPSCoR is now accepting applications for its Annual Awards program. The deadline to apply is Saturday, August 31st, 2019.

‘Education, Outreach, Communication Awards’ and ‘Mini-Grants’ are awarded to STEM-focused researchers and organizations who support collaboration, address gaps/overlaps in service, and share promising practices to engage students in Advanced Manufacturing topics.

Terms & Conditions

  • NSF EPSCoR now requires that ALL supported projects be aligned with KY NSF EPSCoR’s current research themes.  All EOC and M-G  proposed activity must relate to:
    a) additive manufacturing
    b) sensing,
    c) robotics, or
    d) plant-based materials


  • Proposals due by 11:59:59 PM on August 31, 2019


  • Funds cannot be awarded for programs/events before 10/1/2019 or after 6/30/2020.


  • All awardees and funded participants are obligated to provide reporting about the outcomes of their KY NSF EPSCoR-supported projects.


  • Awards cannot be used to purchase computers and similar technology, as well as ‘swag’ such as t-shirts and branded items.


  • All NSF proposals are evaluated through use of two National Science Board approved merit review criteria: Intellectual Merit and Broader Impacts. NSF EPSCoR also requires the additional criteria of research alignment to specific objectives of certain programs and activities of KY NSF EPSCoR.   • Only one application per investigator per program per year is allowed.

Mini-grants are awarded to URM-serving STEM focused programs to support collaboration, address gaps and overlaps in service, and share promising practices as it relates to Advanced Manufacturing education and outreach. Mini-grants are a small amount of seed funding and are not intended to fully fund entire projects. The maximum mini-grant award is $1,600.

Education, Outreach, Diversity

Education, Outreach and Communication (EOC) awards provide up to $10,000 in funding to support STEM education, outreach and communication events and activities related to KY NSF EPSCoR Advanced Manufacturing research initiatives.

Additional Awards from KY NSF EPSCoR

EPSCoR Internships – Funding to support internships at science or tech companies with an operating presence in Kentucky.

Research Award – Faculty seed-funding for new or existing research projects with the goal of enabling future proposal applications submitted to NSF.

Undergraduate Research Experience – Funding for faculty-mentored research projects supporting underrepresented undergrad students in STEM fields.
