Helping Kentucky Girls Discover STEM Careers

Although we have made strides in some areas, girls are not succeeding at high enough numbers in careers such as computer science, engineering and physics. Kentucky and the United States will not have enough workers to fill science and engineering jobs if girls are not prepared to succeed in STEM careers.


The Kentucky Girls STEM Collaborative Project supports STEM programs, activities, and events all designed to provide high-quality educational opportunities for girls across the commonwealth. Our mission is to inform and motivate girls to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to build a strong, diverse workforce in Kentucky.

Women constitute a mere 27% of the Science & Engineering workforce.
Minority women comprise less than 10% of employed scientists and engineers.

Within S&E, men and women tend to study different fields. Men earn a majority of of bachelors degrees awarded in:

Mini-grants are awarded to girl-serving STEM focused programs to support collaboration, address gaps and overlaps in service, and share promising practices.

NCWIT Aspirations in Computing (AiC) provides a long-term community for female technologists, from K-12 through higher education and beyond.

MakerMinded KY

MakerMinded exists to get students excited about STEM related careers early in their educational paths, especially opportunities in the advanced manufacturing field.

Meet the Teen Board!

The KGSC Teen Board is a student-led subcommittee of the KGSC Leadership Team. Made up of Kentucky high school students with high interest in STEM and equity, the Teen Board champions the student perspective in all aspects KGSC operations.
