Turn Passion into Policy

The KGSC Teen Board operates to ensure the student voice is present in state-wide policy decisions related to gender-equity and STEM outreach.

What We Do

Composed of high school student volunteers from across Kentucky, the KGSC Teen Board is the platform for teens to share the student perspective in statewide KGSC decisions including award selection, outreach, and program development.

Members of the KGSC Teen Board:

  • Support the Mission of KGSC.
  • Have a demonstrated interest in and are motivated to enter the STEM workforce.
  • Work with STEM Mentors from the KGSC Leadership Team to engage our local communities.
  • Are engaged in a challenging STEM course load.
  • Have the capacity to “think” like a scientist; they are curious, engage in scientific inquiry, and will work at a concept until they are able to understand it.
  • Are committed to gender equity in STEM.

Why We Do It

Women constitute a mere 27% of the Science & Engineering workforce.
Minority women comprise less than 10% of employed scientists and engineers.
